Outreach

April Ingathering—World Bicycle Relief

Dust off your bike and get it ready for late spring riding!  Saturday, April 18th we’ll kick off the informational weekend with a bike check-up by donation to World Bicycle Relief.  Nancy Griswold has arranged with Budget Bicycle Center to supply a bicycle mechanic from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  We’ll have a tent set up on the Newell House lawn and repairs on the cement slab under the birch tree.  Two volunteers from World Bicycle Relief will be there to talk to you about their programs and how they meet all eight of the Millennium Development Goals!

As you ride your checked up bicycle, think about the Power of Bicycles… now transport yourself to rural Africa where schools, medical services, markets, water, virtually everything is eight to ten miles away.  Your family has been decimated by AIDS, multiple generations living together, but you can’t leave the little ones to get help even if you’re the one who is sick because  medical help is four hours away!  World Bicycle Relief provides caregivers with bicycles to help families get the medical service the need.

Their programs are developing even further!  Join us on Sunday, April 19th; the Adult Forum will feature two short videos and a presentation from these two volunteers.

To learn about their past programs (Project Zambia; CHAI (Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative) Projects – Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Lesotho; Sri Lanka – Project Tsunami.) go to their website at:  www.worldbicyclerelief.org

Do you KNOW the Power of Bicycles?

Distance

Over equal units of time, one can ride a bicycle 4 times the distance as one can travel on foot.

Capacity

Riding a bicycle increases one's capacity to carry by 5 times.

Jessie Crane Outreach Committee

Our Vision:  Saint Andrew’s: The body of Christ working for justice

Our Mission:  The mission of the Outreach Committee is to serve as a catalyst for Saint Andrew’s discernment, development, and exercise of ministries of social justice and reconciliation in our community.

Our Desired Outcomes as We Live Out Our Mission

The “other” in our midst and Saint Andrew’s experience the transforming  power of the unconditional love and grace of God.

Saint Andrew’s becomes a local leader who impacts its environment with the message of Christ’s love – the community knows who we are and why we are doing what we do.

Our larger community has a role model of how a strong, committed community can collaborate and communicate to seek justice, preserve dignity and exercise the ministry of reconciliation at this moment in history.

Join us as we explore ways to live out our Baptismal Covenant, working to "restore all all people to unity with God and each other in Christ" (BCP p. 855).
