Outside our walls
Hopes and Plans for the Jessie Crane Outreach Ministry at St. Andrew's
As the new co-chairs of the Outreach Committee, we strongly support the mission statement created by our predecessors two years ago: "The mission of the Outreach Committee will be to increase both awareness of and commitment to outreach among our fellow parishioners, in the belief that ministries of compassion and justice are intrinsic to God's call and plan in Christ for all people."
In the coming months we hope to revitalize the committee and make it a more effective voice and source of support for all parishioners who give their time and talent to ministries of compassion and justice outside our parish family. The Appalachia Service Project and the Haiti Project already have a strong presence at St. Andrew's and may not need our help. But we have many fellow parishioners who are engaged in kinds of volunteer service that we never hear about. They deserve our support too, and some of us might be inspired to join them if we could hear their stories. So might our children and youth. Our dream is to build up a heart and a culture for outreach in this parish that are strong enough to carry into the next generation.
If you have personal stories of outreach to share or would like to join us in the effort to learn and pass on the stories of others, we'd love to hear from you.
